Ruling on a woman travelling without a mahram



Question

What is the ruling on a woman travelling without a mahram because her work requires that of her?

Answer

It is haraam because the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “No woman should travel without a mahram.” This was narrated by Ahmad from the hadeeth of ‘Abd-Allaah ibn ‘Abbaas (may Allaah be pleased with him) in his Musnad. Even if her work requires that of her, we say that if she cannot find a mahram then she should not travel.

It is better for a woman to pray in her house than in the mosque

Question What is the ruling on sisters making salah in public?. Answer Praise be to Allaah. Woman should be protected and concealed from men as much as her guardian can do that. The Messenger (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) preferred for women to pray in their houses and said that their reward for doing so is greater than their reward for praying in the mosque. It was narrated from ‘Abd-Allaah ibn Mas’ood that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “A woman’s prayer in her room is better than her prayer in her courtyard, and her prayer in her cabinet is better than her prayer in her room.” (Narrated by Abu Dawood, 570; al-Tirmidhi, 1173. Question I work full-time every day, so all the money I earn I spend on clothes, shoes and cleaning materials, whilst my husband spends on rent, bills and some other things. I want to know what are the things my husband must spend on for me. For example, does he only have to clothe me if all my clothes are worn out?
